Members of the Contributing Membership community have recently enjoyed these special opportunities:
February 2008 – Butterfly Pavilion
Less then a week after its opening, members had the special
opportunity of an after-hours visit to the new exhibition Butterflies +
Plants: Partners in Evolution at the National Museum of Natural
History. Though it was snowing outside, it was balmy in the specially-designed pavilion, home to dozens of butterflies.
January 2008 – America by Air
Smithsonian Contributing Members at the Sponsor level and above
joined James Smithson Society members to view the new permanent
exhibition America by Air at the National Air and Space Museum.
Guests explored the exhibition, which details the history of commercial
air transportation.
September 2007 – Encompassing the Globe Lecture
Members at the Curator level and above were invited to attend an
evening lecture by Dr. Julian Raby, director of the Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler
Gallery, about the exciting exhibition Encompassing the
Globe: Portugal and the Globe in the 16th and 17th Centuries. After the
lecture, the guests had the opportunity to explore the many galleries of
the exhibition.
